The exhibition “DOWNSTREAM #01” shows artistic works and research projects that deal with the Danube region. In 2021 and 2022, the nine artists represented, travelled the Danube on board the research vessel MS-FUSION along different stretches of the river from Austria to the Black Sea.
All works shown were created during and after the residency on the MS-FUSION. The “MS-FUSION A.i.R. program” is based on a custom-built ship, that travels frequently down the Danube to Sulina, taking up to six participants, exploring phenomena of the river and its banks. Optimized for inland navigation, the ship offers a platform for trips along the Danube to carry out artistic research in this area. The MS-FUSION functions as a floating medium, because the extraordinary aesthetics of the ship attract attention and thereby creates serendipity and opens an alternative access to hidden Danube cultures.
In April 2023, the participating artists* will metaphorically disembark in Belgrade to present their artistic investigations at the GRAD GALLERY. In addition to the exhibition, they will present a lively program of workshops, demonstrations, lectures, and open discussions.
