keep weaving (in progress)
tapestries from plastic bags, plastic foil, barrier tapes and cords (found objects), cotton cord, ~ 16 x 22 cm / since 2022
During my drifts, I have begun to pick up plastic bags, plastic foil and (barrier)ribbons from the ground, pluck them from bushes, trees or fences and collect them. On a small wooden loom, I weave them into tapestries wherever I am – referring to one of the oldest cultural techniques with a strong tradition in nomadic cultures. Recently I started experimenting with larger formats using an improvised loom, built from a broken clothes drying rack.
These small tapestries are like an abstract travel diary, a visual letter with colourful patterns invented while weaving, each using material from only one place. A tapestry from Belgrade looks different than one from Novi Sad or Pančevo, different than those from the Montenegrin seaside, or the one from Tulcea at the beginning of the Danube Delta, and different than one from Switzerland.
